Federal investigators have intensified their search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old Arizona woman who vanished from her home more than two weeks ago, issuing a public description of a person of interest captured on nearby surveillance footage.
According to the FBI, the man seen on video is of average build, wearing a black outdoor backpack, and was near the area shortly before Guthrie was last seen. The bureau has urged anyone who recognizes the individual to contact authorities immediately.
The investigation has expanded across the Catalina Foothills north of Tucson, with teams canvassing neighborhoods, reviewing hours of surveillance footage, and following thousands of tips. Authorities have increased the reward for information leading to Guthrie’s safe return or to an arrest to $100,000.
Family members have made emotional public appeals, describing Guthrie as a devoted sister and beloved community member. “We just want her home,” a family representative said at a press briefing. “Every day without her is unbearable.”
Local law enforcement officers said the terrain and weather conditions have complicated search efforts, but they expressed confidence that new leads are being pursued. Officials avoided speculation but said the public release of the image could be a crucial development in narrowing possible suspects.
Residents in the area have reported a heightened sense of vigilance since the FBI’s announcement, with some sharing their own doorbell camera recordings with investigators. The case continues to draw national attention as authorities work to piece together Guthrie’s final movements.
